 it's for a back surge. So the gas doesn't surge out when you're filling it. Unleaded restrictors started later on about 78.


:What is the 3/4 inch strip of metal going down the gas filler tube on a '72 tank? It's originally tacked on at the top and goes down past the bend. Is it to prevent something large from going down? -Doug
