:Hi all!
:
:I have a '76 Mav that I yanked the old leaking C4 out of and put in a really strong C4S auto out of a '73 donor. My question is...
:
:Where do the vacuum lines to the tranny solenoid go? I should have taken pictures but I seem to recall that BOTH of the lines from the C4S went into the "4-male" vacuum splitter on the firewall.
:
:Of course this would make no sense as both lines would draw off of the same vacuum source!
:
:Any help here would be greatly appreciated as I have absolutely no downshift unless I use the shifter. Would be nice to put it into drive and have it working normally!
:
:Thanks in advance,

:Tracy, I have some question about what you actually have for a trans. The c4s was only used in the 1970 according to the books. So your getting what you think is a c4s out of a 73 is the question. The c4s does not have a vaccum shifting control. If you still have this control on the replacement trans then it should be still a C4. The C4s is a manually operated unit that has a different internal valve body that eliminates the vac control, governor, kick down rod lever, otherwise is the same. I would suggest you replace the vac unit with a single port type and pipe it to full manifold source, then it should shift automatically in the D. position. Reference the Chilton's book page 185, 3rd para., rt. col. under auto trans. It would be helpfull to get the ID tag info and we can know for sure.
Good luck, Ken
