Yes, I was using a spray bomb. Since I bought a 70 grabber, all I want to do is get my 72 put back together and sold. Figured I'd go lo-budget and use spray paint. Live and learn.
I sanded the offending area, wiped if off with prep sol, and the paint stayed put. Thanks everyone for all the tips. Tom

:I was thinking maybe you are spraying with enamel spray bomb paint?? Part of the problem might have to do with the fact you are wiping down the area with lacquer thinner. I would advise using 'First Kleen' which is usually available at any auto-paint store, this is a good start when doing something like you have done, except you use it before you ever start painting. Now you are compounding the problem by having to spray over and over. Let the paint that is on there, cure, then sand the paint off and use a good lacquer primer lightly. Then you can spray bomb the hell out of it. If you might be feeling stupid right now, I feel your pain ..LOL.... cause I once did not know how to do stuff right and have learned by the old trial and error. Hope this helps. Dan,,, and oh yeah,, I still dont know everything and still screw stuff up. So we keep on learning.

:::::I'm painting the engine compartment of my 72 with stain black spray paint (it actually looks pretty good). Anyway, after cleaning the metal, I wiped it down with lacquer thinner. Paint applied well except for one small place on a shock tower. As soon as the paint touches the metal it "boils up" (like when you use gel paint remover. I wiped the area down w/lacquer thinner and repainted -- same result. Then I sanded it down, wiped with thinner and tried again, still boiled. I remember from a long time ago that you're not supposed to paint enamel over lacquer (or vice versa), but that doesn't make sense cause the paint "took" everywhere else. Any paint experts out there?
:::::Thanks. Tom

::::Believe it or not. M.E.K.(Methyl Ethyl Ketone)works very well in areas where you have fish eyes. I have had it do bettor than Prep Sol and a couple of other finish cleaners.
