:im just wondering if any of yall have addressed the maverick's naturally poor handling situation?
:im probably gonna park my maverick over the winter, make lots of improvements, and go to it as a daily driver by spring.
:as you know... a V8 maverick has a terrible understeer problem. and though i hate the power steering... its probably there to stay, and helps somewhat.
:what im considering doing is buy an addco swaybar, with urethene bushings. has anyone tried this, and what were your results? happy?
:i also will probably replace all 4 shocks. i guess i'll opt for air shocks on back, although i have no desire to raise the car, and get a good pair of gas shocks up front. the maverick is a budget car, and i wonder if there would be any appreciable difference between autozone gas shocks and KYB or Koni?
:im sure there is... but for the money, would it be worth it?
:
:finally...
:does anyone know of the availability of a monte carlo bar, or export brace for a maverick?
:a friend of mine installed one on his falcon, and he said it did a whole lot to firm up the ride, and reduce body roll.
:all answers and suggestions are appreciated.
:it would also be nice if you could provide me with the names of vendors that stock the necessary parts.
:
:thanks

One thing to remember when you do modifications or improvements to any car is to consider what you have to start with. Now mind you, I am NOT knocking our Mavs, but, the reality is that it was made to be a cheap economy car, at least what they considered to be one in the '70s. There's only so much you can do with anything unless you are wiling to invest a fortune and tear everything apart and start over from scratch. Some of the car's handling characteristics will be determined by design and may not be able to be overcome. For example, you cannot compare a conventional worm & sector steering with shocks type suspension, which is indicitave of the Mav and it's counterparts, to today's rack & pinion with MacPherson strut independent suspension which is the standard today. All I am trying to tell you is to be realistic unless you have very deep pockets and nothing else to do with your money. If that is the case, there's a few things I can use..... ;)
