:I got to the heart of the miss...bad plug. I bought Autolite plugs and replaced the bad one with the same (number 46). Maybe I should change brands. Anyway, there is still a hesitation that I cannot get out. Idle, is smoother, but not perfect, leaning out air mix doesn't help. I haven't seen a lot of straight sixes that idle perfect, especially with miles on them. I noticed when I checked all the plugs that there is some carbon at the rear 3 cylinders. The car starts crisply and doesn't stall. I have premium fuel in it right now. It didn't like regular at all. Right now I have to work on it static as it is up on jack stands for replacement of the rear brakes and emergency brake cables (it was an adventure finding the cables. Thank God for NAPA).There was an minute bit of play in the distributor shaft, as per the feedback I got on my last post about this. I still think I'm missing something simple. I just cannot figure out what!!

I agree with Earl, sounds like timing. Maybe in the vacuum advance unit, leaking, stuck etc. Just purchased another Mav, 73, 4dr with 250 auto. One owner by 78 yr old lady, 86000 mi, near perfect and only 500.00. Will pick up tonight and see how it drives home. Got a lead on a couple more but don't know if 2dr or 4dr, V8 or 6. Going to have to find room somewhere to store them. It's like a good beer, can't resist a Mav.
