Personally, put in a Fox body style manual rack/pinion, remove the front shock towers and replace the coil springs with coil over shocks.
As for the engine, use a 351W short block with special Cleveland style pistons with 2bbl Cleveland heads. Better oiling and lighter block with just as much strength and easier to mount in the car.
