plenty of people use just a plain single 4 barrel manifold with (most of the time) better results. I've seen low-7's with a single carb on a single plane intake with plenty of nitrous...only thing good about a tunnel ram is the look, and it might work a bit better than a good single-plane at, say, around 10,000 rpm or so. TR's have no bottom end to speak of, a very narrow powerband, major PITA to rig throttle linkage, plus they stick up too far out of the hood.
