:Hello!
:I just bought some '69-73 351W heads for the '80 302 to be put in my Maverick. To make a long story short, i just realized that the rocker arms are complete different! The 351 heads have (3/8"?) studs, whereas the '80 302 heads used bolts. Does anyone have stock rockers from their 302 (i.e. converted to roller rockers) that they want to get rid of? The heads are bare, so i would need fulcrums and all. Also, any ideas if the '80 pushrods would work? If not, any available? Thanks!

:Chris, If I understand, you bought 351 heads to put on an 80 302. There is no problem doing that. You need the early rocker arms that have the valve tip guides on the end of the rockers called rails and 'half ball' pivets plus the nuts to do this and a set of standard 302 push rods. The 80 push rods should work. Falcrums are used on the 80 heads that you don't need for the early heads. The 351 heads have larger head bolt holes, therefore washers need to be used under the 302 head bolts.
..Should you want to put roller rockers on the 351 heads, then additional work needs to be done. The original studs need to be replaced with screw in studs with push rod guide plates under them in lew of the stock rockers that had 'tip guides' as stated above. The guide plates keep the rocker arms ailgned with the valve tips. The other benifit of the replacement studs is that you now have valve lash adjustment that in not able to be done with the stock studs.
..A tip for longer valve seat life on present day gas is to have the 351 seats replaced with inserts
..Good luck, Ken
