:Ok, i am totally confused here, i think i am not explaining my thoughts totally.... am building my maverick in a 2 part saga, the first to give it some speed, to amass parts that will go on the final motor and to overall keep me happy as i build the final motor.
:
:In the car now as we speak is a 74 302 - its ALL stock, has 8.0:1 compression, C4 tranny and 3.0 rear gears. I have aquired a 4bbl 600cfm holly, a single plane weiand manifold, headers, duel exhaust and 1995 heads that are going to be home ported, polished and gasket matched.
:
:The short term goal for the car is to get it to run in the mid to high 14's with the above parts. I am going to add a cam, 3.80 gears and a 2200 stall convertor. I am hoping that will get me into the 14's. Basically the whole thing will be adding parts/replacing parts without having to pull the motor.
:
:
:When i get that done, i plan on picking up a used motor and building a race preped shortblock - it will have forged pistons with atleast 9.5:1 compression. I will add a decent cam - loping idle and 13.1 ET on motor is the only goal in mind, i will add a 150hp NOS system after i get the motor to run consistantly at 13.1 in the 1/4 mile.
:
:
:So all that said, on the stock motor with 8.0:1 compression WITH 1995 heads that have been ported, polished and gasket matched, a 4bbl holly 600cfm, weiand single plane manifold, headers, duel exhaust (dumped before the rear axle) and 3.0 gears...... What cam is the max i can run and see some improvement - 14.7 ET is the goal here and lope if i can get it. Keep in mind i will be adding a 2200 stall convertor and 3.80 rear gears soon.

:Thanks

:David,ok
...Try again.....you present 8.1 cr will seriously drop further using the late heads due to there larger chambers. Result is loss of power instead of a gain. How much a 4b carb and exhaust will counter this loss is unknown. Your engine has .035" deck clearence plus dished pistons. There's not much more to say. I'am trying to keep your confusion to a miniumn. You can't get around this situation without doing block work except to super charge the engine.
