:Engine is trashed. Started pulling parts last night. Radiator AND block didn't have enough coolant to fill a 20oz pop bottle. Oil pan is way over full and milky looking. Somewhere in the block there is a crack (probably No.2 cylinder wall), that allowed the coolant to seep into the oil pan. It wasn't like that right after the rod went because that was the first thing I looked at. Oh well, live and learn. Time to rebuild my other 302. Just hope there is no damage to my cam and crank... Way back I had a similar problem with a 302 in my 71. The rocker knocked a keeper off the valve and it slipped down into the piston. Not a nice noise there either. When I disassembled the block the oil pan was full of water, 3 rod caps had been blown off, the piston was only about half there, the valve stem was wedged in the head, and there were many cracks in the cylinder wall. I thought it was real strange that when it happened there was no external indication there was anything wrong. It would start but make a hell of racket. |
