:Will aftermarket disc brake kits (such as Wilwood) for 65-69 Mustangs (v8 Spindle) work on Maverick spindles? The kit says it uses 11.75 inch rotors. I know I've seen early Mustangs that use Granada discs, so I am hoping the opposite is true. Thanks. The drum brake spindles used on the Maverick will NOT work with early Mustang disc setups. Here is why: When using 65-67 4 piston calipers on a 67-69 Mustang with drums, you have the good fortune of the spindle using the smaller wheel bearing and the 4 piston calipers bolt to the drum brake spindle etc. The unfortunate thing is that the rotors used on the 4 piston calipers are specific to those calipers and never came with the bigger wheel bearing. If you decide to go with single piston calipers, well, you will have to get new spindles. The Maverick disc brake spindles will accept 70-73 Mustang brake parts but be careful when going from certain years due to slight variations in the dust sheild clearance. You cannot use 69 Mustang brake rotors with a Maverick spindle because again, the 69 uses a smaller bearing. I hope I explained it well enough. If you have anymore questions, please post and I will try to do better. BTW, my 70 Maverick uses 68 Mustang drum brake spindles, 67 Mustang 4 piston calipers(SSBC), 67 Mustang outer tie rods and a 74 Maverick disc brake master cyl. and the setup works GREAT! I personally can't see spending $2,500-4,500 on a disc brake setup from Wilwood or Baer unless I had a full race vehicle. I recommend SSBC as a great bargain/performance. |
