The exhaust sounds like it may have started the chain of events for your engine. Cat or Muffler plugged up will put extra back pressure on the engine and make it run hotter, causing it to diesel and dieseling usually causies internal damage.
Bearings take a beating, rods are stressed wrong, pistons tops melt, valves go bad, blown head gaskets. This will put extra stress on the piston skirts to which can cause them to break.
