Can anyone help? I've got either rust or sludge in my gas tank (not sure until I take it off this weekend and exam it).If it's rust and I want to replace it, any idea where to find a new gas tank for a '73 Maverick? I've looked online and haven't had much luck.
Someone told me once that Mustang and Maverick parts for '73 are interchangeable. I was able to find a Mustang gas tank in town, but it's 22gal, not 15gal like my existing tank. Is this a big deal?
If it's sludge, I've had two suggestions thus far
1. Remove the empty gas tank - fill it with kerosene and bb's and agitate it to get rid of the sludge. Remove the kerosene and bb's with a screen and wait until the kerosene has evaporated to put tank back on car
2. Empty something called "Silo" into my gas tank. Apparently this stuff will slowly eat the sludge without damaging the fuel line, pump, filter or carbureator.
I'm open for any other suggestions if anyone has them, or helpful hints on making it any easier...
