Found a 8" 5 lug rearend out of a 63 Ranchero. Didn't see it on the width chart that is in one of the threads on here. Will it work and what is its width. Already been converted to disk brakes.
The '63 V8 Falcon has the shortest rear end...it's a quarter inch shorter than a Maverick rear end. The spring perches are the same distance as the Maverick. Only real difference is the Falcon used a 2" leaf spring whereas the Maverick used a 2.5" spring. The Falcon also used tapered axle tubes and have a smaller U-bolts than what came with a Maverick.
If your on a tight budget and it's priced right you could slot the lower mounts to work with the smaller u-bolts and run it. But it's not by any means the ideal setup.
Right now it is 4 lug drum..Wanting 5 lug as well as disk brakes and positive traction. Looking for best economical way to go about this.
I have a 9 inch from a Lincoln Versailles that is going into my Maverick, but it is not ready, and I am not sure when it will be as I have other Maverick priorities at the moment. Otherwise I would just give you my old 8 inch 5 lug. There is a user on here named rwbrooks50 that used to have several parts cars on his property that may be able to hook you up.
You may be able to swap the axles and brakes onto your stock maverick 8" rear housing. My buddy in N. Carolina would probably give you a good deal on his stock 5 lug maverick rear. His name is jski on here I believe.
4-lug and 5-lug housings use different O.D. and I.D. bearings. Might want to keep an eye on Pull-a-Part for a Maverick/Comet and get the rear disc off a Crown Vic.
