    Headlight alternatives**

Today I took a friend to a Automotive Lighting store (DDM Tuning) to buy some HID's and LEDs for his Cadillac CTS. After comparing the difference in the headlights he got me thinking, and he said that they sell conversion kits for the Maverick. So Im wondering if anyone has done something like this or am I better off using the Tri bar headlamps?

Heres a link to the 7" lamps that the store sells.

I was also thinking of using these tri bar headlights, but not sure if they are brighter? Are these better than factory headlamps?

I got a my wire harness/fuse box replaced with the Ron Francis 24/7 Access harness and fusebox. Would I still need to install the relays? I also upgraded my alternator to a 3G.

If u have the RF u probably won't need to do anything in regards to upgrading the wiring. Im not familiar w/ that harness - so don't really know. One way to check, measure voltage at the battery and the plug where the seal beam attaches. If u get a drop of more than 1.2v at the plug, I wud think ur not going to get full benefit from the change.

i couldnt find any info on if those lights have plastic or glass lenses. the plastic lens will pit and turn yellow over time. the cheaper the light housing usually the faster they discolor. your ron francis wiring should be fine with regular bulbs. ron francis does sell a relay upgrade kit that will guarantee full power to the bulbs and no blowing of the fuses in the fuse block. it installs easily into the brights switch and the relays will mount on the fuse block. if you go with some hids, they usually have their own power supply wire and only use the original wiring to trigger them on and off. as for the tribar lights, those are pretty much a style thing. if you like them then get them. try to find ones with glass lens or carbonate lenses, not plastic.

i get mine from DDM TUNING in Vista, CA too. the HID kits and leds are phenomenal i use them for all my cars. the housings are glass, but i did come across a problem with them. your all familiar on the 3 bars that go around the headlights to keep the light from twisting right? and they also allow you to put them in the right way. the DDM housings have those in the wrong place for our cars. so the light beam is at an angle, making it no good to us.

HID's look ridiculous in an old car. You just need silverstar sealed beams and the relay harness. Mine are as bright as any new car without blinding people with junk aftermarket hid lamps.

If you notice on our headlight buckets (70-early 74) it has L.H. stamped on the passenger's side and R.H. stamped on the driver's side. If you put the L.H. bucket on the driver's side the headlight will be on about a 45* angle. I wonder if swapping buckets around will allow these headlights fit...or will they end up 90* off center?

It's all personal preference... 5000k Hids are bright white, no blue tinting or yellow tinting. And they ARE brighter then sylvania silver stars (I've used both on the same car).

Brighter isnt better. True factory HID lamps are so bright they have a beam cut off point. Aftermarket housings usually dont have this. The driver you blind may end up in your front end. Silverstars are more than bright enough. Affordable and look stock. ITs about safety not personal preference.

You can convert to projector type housings (which I do for HIDS) and they are perfectly safe to run HIDS. No blinding glare to other drivers and work as good at least than silver stars for less money...

Less money??? My silver stars were 47 dollars for two and I dont have to worry about cheap chinese ballasts burning up my car. I have three sets on my bench right now with melted ballasts. All the same 100 dollar chinese kits.
