The battery on my Mav, after 6yrs, has finally bit the dust. My question is: What is the difference between the Optima battery and the newer AGM batteries? The cost is a bit lower for the AGM, but I am wondering about jump starting, recharging and battery life. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. eb
When I built my Sprint back in 2002 I bought an Optima Battery for it (red). It always worked great considering the car sat most of the time. Even after a long winters nap it always started the car right up. Never had a charger of any kind on it nor did I ever have to jump it. I finally replaced it in 2012. Not because it died, I was just worried it would because of the age. I still use it on my trailer winch.
Tim showed me a battery his neighbor bought. it was a little bigger than a lawn mower bat. 1325 CCA and he uses it to power the winch on his 4 wheel drive truck.
Odyssey battery is always a good battery Xs poweris another Also check out braille Optima batteries arnt as good as they used to be..
I still have the same ole abused Optima Yellow top I started with 10 years ago. I've direct shorted it a couple times, had it all but completely drained, let it sit connected to the car for as much as 8 months without starting it, and it still keeps on ticking. Recently got one of those fancy Optima charges/battery conditioners and it states the battery is still in tip top shape. I wouldnt go any other way. Not to mention they also are the primary sponsor for many not so mainstream motorsports.
my red top has been killed dead twice and it's still ticking 9 years later. with that being said, I'll probably go out to the shop this morning and it will be dead for real...
didn't make it to the shop...went to go to lunch and the battery in my truck was dead... got a new one from Advance Auto...
Shopped around, and in the interest of a tight wallet, opted for the AGM group 34 battery from Advance. It was $178 after a discount coupon, and taxes. It has a 3yr replacement policy and is warranted for 8yrs. Hope it holds up. Thanks for all the advice and recommendations. You guys are the best!!!
