    Hello,

I am looking at buying a 72 Comet GT. From the research I have done, it looks difficult to identify a true GT car without a "Marti Report", is that correct?

The car I am looking at has both side mirrors, black interior with tan bucket seats, floor shifter, and a blackeed out tail panel. The hood does not have a hood scoop, did they make a GT with out a hood scoop in 72?

Are there any other ways to identify if it is a real GT or a clone?

    Thank you for the help,

    Thank you,
    Mike

    Welcome...

All had the scoop and unless it has a factory vinyl roof will have body color drip rails...

Thank you for the help, would you assume that this is a clone based on the pictures?

Does this car have a maverick front end? It looks different than your pictures

With a Maverick hood, grille & bumper...

Those seats are part of the LDO(Luxury Decor Option), a true GT had seats similar to Mustang...

Maverick front end, no deluxe imterior, nothing to me stands out as a gt, maybe by the vin I heard you can only get a comet with a v8 is if you get the gt package, if the engine code is F than its a v8 I'm pretty sure someone will chime in on this

Nope, engine options were exactly same as any other Comet..

This one is a true GT and had the screamin' 200..

It could be a GT but it has a Maverick Front end on it. It does have deluxe door panels but probably not orginal. So if it has a Maverick front end there is no way to tell if it is a true GT with out a Marti report.

Comet GT's also came with 6 cylinder engines.

Crazy Comet I have looked at pictures of that GT of yours. Does it have a Comet script on both sides. 71 and 72 GT's didn't have them. So some one probably changed fenders or added it later.

Yep the radiator support is wrinkled, def has junkyard fenders... Hood could be orig but prob not, I still need to check date code on the stamping to see if's close to build of car... With 164K mi if it moves it's worn out or rusted... Not far from being a Freddy Flintstone Flyer...
