I picked up a Tremec 5 speed for my Stallion...a srod 4 speed is in the car now behind a 302...can I use my tremec bell housing...I am also currently using a cable clutch system...and have headers on the v8...now a question about the trans...the input shaft doesn't turn...it seems to be jammed...I pulled the inspection covers off and did not find any visible damage...a head scratcher...can move the shifter through the gears...but still the input shaft wont move...took off the input shaft bearing cover off and bearing looked good...again head scratcher...
What type of force did you use to try and turn the input shaft? maybe slip a clutch disc on it and see if it will turn with that, you should be able to use the TREMEC bell with the 302 with no issues other than maybe starter fitting correctly, are you going to stay with the cable clutch set-up?
Yeah I thought my cable setup worked well until the first cable got too close to the header, and after installing a second cable and a heat shield it still got too hot in heavy beach traffic.....went with hydraulic this time.
I have this setup in my car, the tremec bell housing is a direct fit, (I did use a hydraulic clutch though)I didn't even have to shorten my driveshaft from the factory C4 that was in my car. The bellhousing has provisions for a cable setup so that is not a big deal at all. The tremecs were made to bolt up to 5.0 engines so make sure you get a conversion flywheel/clutch to bolt up to the engine because the 5.0 engines use metric flywheels and the 302 engines use SAE. And no, you cant bolt a diaphragm clutch up to the original 302 flywheel. Here is my install on that transmission. http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/so-my-car-now-has-a-tremec-tko.80140/
