Hi, I am new to this forum and unexperienced. Feel kind of silly asking you these questions. Mu father owned a 1971 Maverick, 8 cyl, 289 engine. I want to fix the car so I can take it out sometime.
What kind of breaks would be a good replacement? I also want a hydraulic direction system, is this possible? Can someone guide me in the right direction? I will greatly appreciate any help.

    :Welcome: to the forum!

I'm not sure what you mean by "hydraulic direction system". If you mean a system that you can adjust brake bias, that is a simple balance bar valve to adjust flow to the rear brakes from inside the car while driving. Any of the race suppliers, like Summit or Jegs will have those parts and they can be added to your system. As for brakes do a search for "Granada swap" for the fronts and "aftermarket rear disk (or disc) brakes"

After thinking about it......I think the poster means power steering.

Well that would make more sense ................. :yup:

Do we have a language conflict? I'm thinking with a 289, this could be a Mexico maverick.

I've been told at a lot of car shows that my uncle bought a new one with a 289 with a four speed. Even had a few say that their uncle bought a new one with a 289 HiPo four speed. I just listen and agree with them and laugh when they leave.

Well, they may have a 289 with a 4 speed - believe it or not they sold them in Mexico as early as 1970

Take a look at this thread - the particularly post #2

For stock type disc brakes most use the setup from a Granada or later Maverick... The power steering can be from same, but center link must be Maverick as they are narrower than Granada...

There is a aftermarket system by Borgerson but it doesn't fit vehicles with std trans as it interfers with clutch linkage...

I dunno about Boss 302 price but in '71 the Boss 351 listed at $4124 before options... Or just about double a stripper Maverick at $2175...
