This Morning I drove and hour to Advance Plating in Nashville Tn. to turn in my front bumper on my 73. Not have had the chance to have anything plated before I was under the impression that it would be cheaper then buying a new bumper with the core charge, Tax and shipping. I was shocked when he handed me the bill. $1,311.45 I don't mind paying for good work or hard to find parts. So my Question is. If some of you guys have had some plating done how much over did i pay? or is that the ball park. The part will be ready for pick up in - get this 12 to 14 weeks.
They do more like show quality chrome sometimes they're good sometimes they're bad but they're always way overpriced they've ruined a lot of my brothers parts by grinding and warping them I would definitely find a different place, here in Ohio it's about 300 per bumper for good driver quality chrome
The quality level is the key here. I had a rear bumper re-chromed by one of the best shops in Ohio and they did a show chrome job for about $600. Lots of prep involved. It is light years ahead of an NOS bumper. No scratches, texturing, stains or any other defects. I also had a front bumper re-chromed to a standard, "daily driver" appearance for $300. Looks good, but you can tell the plating quality fall well short of my rear bumper. The reason I did not go with show chrome on the front had to do with the condition of the core. It had a lot of pitting on the back and had to be straightened whereas my rear bumper was perfect. Having said that, $1300+ is over twice what I paid for a show quality job.
