It's finally time to get the exhaust installed! Doug Thorley Headers, Petronix coil and distributor, Performer intake and a 4 bbl edelbrock...done.

I have a Spectra gas tank and the drivers side is really tight. Does anyone have any experience/photos of a Dual Exhaust setup with the Spectra tank...can it be done?

    Thanks

Was feeling pretty good this morning. I take the Comet out for a test spin and was going to swing by muffler shop around corner... car was stalling with air filter on, so I took it off. I lost reverse and had a small fire under hood.

Leaning as you go can be painful.

    Backfire caused by vacuum leak...

Hopefully easy to find and fix.

Keep a close eye on that plastic gas filter; I had one deform at the nipples and spray fuel all over the engine bay until the car stalled. I was fortunate the car didn't catch fire.
What do u suspect caused the wire to overheat?

Not really sure... suspecting a vacuumed leak caused the back fire as it fire originated from carb and then caught the fuel line which melted the carb positive and negative wires. Wires from the painless wiring relay held up great, no melting.

Timing is at its original mark, close to 10 degrees.

So thinking it has to be vacuume leak... some oil leakage by PCV valve.

HAVE HAD ONE SPLIT as well. I run all metal ones now. id also consider a 90 degree fitting for oyur carb, they sell them for edelbrocks.

Fixed vacuume leak, set timing to 10 degrees and drove her to the muffler shop. They said duel exhaust with the spectra tank would not be an issue... she should be done today/tomorrow!

Anyone have any photos of how they cleared this... I spoke with Jamie from Doug Thorley and he said the shop needed to do a bend on a bend.

The shop is not sure how thst would clear... I'll search for photos also.

Looking to see how folks got the DT headers to clear on drivers side.

My brother has a set of shorty headers that he had the exhaust shop cut and reroute the collector to clear

Type in Doug Thorley in the search function. There's some info on dealing with the issues.

I had my exhaust run on the outside of the rear frame rails as it looped over the axle. It is tight around the shocks and probably eliminates the ability to run a rear sway bar, but otherwise OK. The tips line up with the outer tail lights.

They are going to trim bell housing and grind pitman a bit... I'll post photos when done.
