I looked all over but couldn't find anything in the forum. I installed a 347 stroker with new champion radiator. The only thing not connected is 1. the clutch cable 2. the oil pressure gauage (gauge itself is connected just not the portion that goes into the engine block cant remember what its called) 3. the water tempature gauge (same issue as oil pressure gauge). Additionally some bolts need to be torque to spec - 1. bolts on front accessories not to include the water pump 2. the four bolts connecting the transmission to engine 3. four bolts connecting engine mount to engine and the two bolts connecting the motor mounts to frame. 4. gap the spark plugs lastly I need oil and coolant added to the car and primed. I took the car to a ford dealership to have them complete this task they wanted $3,500. I thought that was way too much so I just had the car towed back to my garage. My question is with everything listed above what is a reasonable price to pay. what would be a good price to pay if I just finished the install and just had them add oil and coolant and prime and start the engine.
Dealers will overcharge big time to work on an old car, it isn't worth it to them. They only want to support newer cars. My GF's 15 year old Nissan 300ZX needed a new harness for the fuel injectors. Dealer wanted almost $3000! I did it myself for less than $100.
Rather than "Earth" as your location you might try putting where you really are. If you did that there just might be a member near you that would be willing to help you wrap it up. Everything you have listed would be pretty easy to do in a day if all the important pieces are present. Who put the engine in for you?
If you are worried about torque, you can buy several torque wrenches for the price a repair shop would charge... Other than heads, rods & main caps I never torque anything, of course I have 50+ years of doing it by "feel"... As already stated a repair shop doesn't want anything they'll have to "figure out", a resto shop may take it but you'd pay dearly...
Dude, if you can managed the install yourself...You can do the rest. Your just dealing with the detail stuff now. ANY local shop is going to charge you the "Dont com back here price" Specialty shops will make you pay as well (For their skill and ability). Let every one know where your at...You may be surprised.
He speaks the truth as does Mojo. If you can get the engine in and aligned with the mounts and transmission the rest is gravy. Hardest part would be getting the distributor lined back up. You can use a drill, 1/4" extension and a 5/16 socket to prime the oil pump, just make sure to add some tape to the socket so it doesn't come of the extension!
For priming the instructions say to add the engine oil remove spark plugs and start the car. It's a blueprint 347 crate engine the biggest thing for me is making sure my warranty stays intact. The install was easy but I'm afraid if I add the coolant the wrong way or something of that nature and the engine breaks they will no honor there warranty. I don't want them being able to say it was fault.
You still haven't provided us with your general location. Apparently you are relatively close to a Ford dealer.
you have the hard part done, now is the fun part. just some tinkering and you're riding...... who built the 347?
Yep ! We welded a socket to an extension with a half-inch drive and it works well. We've completed many engines and primed the pump with our setup before starting .. I didn't trust tape for this setup as it could fail and then we'd have to go fishing . Cometized (Chip)
