What can I use to lubricate the gear on a new distributor since I don't have cam lube? Will 80w90 gear oil be ok?

That'll work. Will be fine with regular motor oil too. Cam lube is mainly used because of its high viscosity which helps the oil cling to the parts if startup time will be delayed while the rest of the engine is being built. SBF have pressurized oil feeding the gear anyways so whatever you use will be washed away pretty quick anyways.
