I am attempting to remove the "cover plate" in the wheel well that covers the coil. How does one remove this nut or remove the vacuum canister? to get the nut off?
I don't recall having to remove the vac canister on my 73 to get that cover plate off! Maybe the 72's are different. Maybe someone else can chime-in w/ their input1
Thanks Krazy Didn't realize the strap came off and it lifted out. BTW what is the purpose of the canister?
Stores vapors from the gas tank so they can be burned in the engine and not stink up your garage on a hot day ..........
You'll want to replace your charcoal fuel vapor canister when you're done. The the metal pipe is a gas tank vent. The carbon canister and hose to the air cleaner create a closed system keep fuel vapors from escaping into your engine compartment. New cars use a purge valve solinoid to regulate the release of vapors into the intake, but the elegantly designed Ford system passive system performs very well. No moving parts, no maintenance, should be the last part of the car to wear out.
