What are you calling "hood struts"?

Hold the Hood up instead of hood rod

Those are all custom made. Nobody offers a "kit" for that.

I am wondering if the hood has to be modified at the point of connection to hood and body, since the hood wasn't designed to be supported in this manner?

I think money had more to do with Maverick/Comet hood hinge lack of spring. Hood springs did not come on my Falcon either but I added a set back in '73. Maverick and Falcon hood design is the same. The spring pulls on the hinge, not the hood. Here is a Maverick pic with hinge springs.

    Jeff:
Do you have anymore information about the hood spring installation on that Maverick you have pictured? It looks like it was modified to accept a spring? You mentioned that Mav/Falcon hood design is the same, wondering about the hood hinges?

When talking to the guy he said it's all homemade and that we were looking a version 3.0
Here is another pic that I edit the brightness to show a little better detail. Be sure to click to see full screen.
The Mav/early Falcon hinge are different but made from same thickness metal. I'm guessing late Falcon hinge should be same as 66 Fairlane

Can you please post a better picture of the bottom spring mounting bracket?
    Thanks
