Bought a second 1850 for the tunnel ram that I'll probably never run. Today I am headed to my brother's to get it ready for the ride home. Hopefully this afternoon it'll be resting in its bay of the garage! 20220225_182332.jpg

Rick glad to hear that you will be getting the car to its new home, even if you dont work on it at least you can look at it. Even if you dont ever use the tunnel ram it will make great trading stock and looks cool

It will get worked on, I have a stack of parts ready to go. First thing is cleaning the rest of the grime from the engine compartment so I can stick it in and start wiring it.

Installed a new trunk lock(didn't have the keys to it when I got my car.) and now have a functional trunk although still is filthy from the 13 years of mouse dung and the like (saving up to take it to the car detailer. but first tires).

Went to a local junk yard found a 72 comet GT, 76 maverick and a 70 maverick grabber. The GT and 76 weren’t up for parting out yet, but the 70 was! My buddy and I walked away very happy lol. Then went home and Installed the Holley sniper EFI kit! The instal it’s self was straight forward but all the other upgrades I did with it were a handful :dead:.

I was perusing the internet a few weeks before Christmas when I spotted a deal on the Holley website; a deal that was too good to pass up. Holley had a new (last one) 650 Mighty Demon, double pumper, manual secondary, all aluminum carburetor on sale for just under $400. Retail was almost $1.000 and I verified that $1000 price tag on the Summit Racing website. I told my wife about it and she bought it for me as a Christmas present.

I just installed it for the 1st time yesterday. I always wanted to try a manual/double pumper on Hotrock but never got around to it and was unwilling to spend the money on something that could end up being a bust. In addition, Mighty Demons do not have chokes. That is something I had not delt with since I was 18 years old driving around in my 1965 Comet Caliente with a hot 289 4 speed, solid lifter cam, Cobra intake manifold and a center squirter Holley. I wish I had that car today, it was a black beauty. I sold it when I was drafted into the Army.

The installation of the Mighty Demon went well. The only adjustment I made on the carburetor was to slightly open the secondary throttle plates to .020" as Hotrock idles at just over 1,100 RPM.

I cold started Hotrock for the 1st time this winter using a remote starter switch so I could check for any issues. To my surprise, (not having a choke) it started immediately, never stalled and stayed idling on its own after only 15 seconds. I held it at a steady RPM for a little while to clear things out then it settled down to a nice idle at about 1,100 RPM. Sweet!

My modified Speed Demons with electric chokes do not like cold starts no matter how I adjust the electric chokes. The Speed Demons don't like tootling; they just love to scream!

I took Hotrock out and drove her for a very short distance comparing the Mighty Demon to my modified Speed Demons with vacuum secondaries; I'm not sure if it is as savage as the Speed Demons. Time at the track will tell, and besides this carburetor has had only one miner adjustment. More to come!

Needless to say, I was very impressed with the Mighty Demon right out-of-the-box.

I included a picture; kind of like a jewel in a tall ring setting!

I started digging through parts so I can get going on it again. Have most of what I'll need in the immediate future staged, now to clear out what's still in the car from storing it. I also went out and picked up the engine from my brothers place and brought it home. Couldn't resist setting the tunnel ram on it!

I've always liked the look of a tunnel ram just because...
Are you going to run it for any length of time? My cousin's husband had a tunnel ram on a hot "other brand engine" in a '32 Ford roadster. He reported that you could hammer the throttle, count to five and then you better be hanging on tightly!

To be honest, my biggest hesitation is the amount of theft that goes on. I plan to drive the car on a regular basis and would hate to come out and see the carbs are gone. I have ideas of how to negate that so it may find a home on there yet.

I agree with the theft concerns. I don't like to park either of my classics out of eye sight and my dual quads are under the hood! You could put a Pro Stock-type scoop over them.

Safety wire all your fasteners and that might slow em down just enough for you to catch them in the act lol
