New to me 1970 Maverick , Look like I have a 250 engine from a manual transmission ? On the block where the shifter rod would have gone in on the stock Motor ? This block has a smaller threaded hole ? Am i missing a bracket or do i just need to drill out that hole bigger , Or is it missing a part ? thanks
If you have automatic the above clutch ball isn't going to help.. You're missing a triangular bracket that bolts to block(lower area of pictorial). Basic part number 7C341. Part 7341 is a nylon bushing that acts as bearing for the cross bar.
Thank you Guys !!! that is the answer I needed , I hope i can find that bracket in my parts bin ? What book should i buy with all that kind of info ? And yes this is for my Auto , somebody did a engine swap 250 now in it !
Info came from the '65-'72 Ford Master Parts catalogue. Available on DVD. I believe the 7341 grommet is available in assortment in the Help! parts section. Three or more different sizes, I had to buy a couple to get all the bushings I needed. The 5.0 in my Comet didn't have a boss for clutch/shift linkage, made a bracket similar to 6 cyl from 5.0 water pump rear cover. Clutch bracket can bought from Mustang suppliers.
I found part #7c431 in my parts box > Yepee ! But My engine is a transplant 250 , I found out it has a different bel lhouseing Than the stock 200 l-6 , It is missing a drilled hole for this mount , I will modify ? But I NEED A PICTURE OF A STOCK 250 shift linkage to the block ? Does the rod go in the block ? The more pics the better ? Any body got any pics ? Would be very much Appreciated ! Also I know i can buy a custom Column linkage ,but i would rather not , Thanks
I was concerned the 250 linkage would be different than 200, BUT neither the '65-'72 or '73-'79 Master Parts makes a distinction. . Pictorials in both are same. Since the 250 has the 302 bell pattern, I'll guess it uses same/similar linkage as V8? I'll do a bit more diggin' maybe I can come up with comparable part number.
After another 30 min or so(hey it's rainin' ain't got nothin else to do), I found There are different part numbers for the 7A185 bellcrank/cross bar. See chart, what differences are I dunno. The 7A026 stud that screws into block was apparently used only on V8, that'd suggest totally different setup for those engines. Again for '73-'77, the 302 is only engine to use the stud. The Torino/Fairlane setup uses common parts between 250 & 302(no I'm not saying that would work on your car). Without correct parts, best bet would likely be modify the 7C341 bracket you have, definitely do not drill block. .
So what i need 2 know is would that Rod go in that treaded hole in my picture. On a stock 200. ? That hole oon mine is 3/8 treaded. The rod is 1/2" i could drill out ? If rod goes there ? A picture of stock 200 would be great. And Thanks
It would fit into the 7C341 bracket, because the 250 is wider, orig shaft is now to long(no doubt the 250 shaft is shorter). Blue paint on shaft is from previous engine being painted while installed, that portion protruded through the bracket. Shiny portion fit into 7341 grommet. Does the shaft line up with threaded opening? If so I'd turn it down enough to fit into it. Pack full of grease and call it good. You'd have to unbolt bracket from frame rail to gain "wiggle" room to install. No doubt not acceptable for everyday usage but would be fine for a weekender. Is there enough clearance for teeth on flexplate? Appear to be dragging. I'd also look to see if plate has a weight welded to it. If so it's for a 302, will turn the 250 into a giant paint shaker. .

I hope not I thought this was a easy build ?????? I just brought it last week ????? Thanks for your help
I've heard this before, that lie is all over net. Assumin' the trans and engine started life together, it is easy. If trans is piecemealed or the orig modified to work with 250, can be pitfalls. There are two different v8/250 bell housings, each uses a specific size flexplate(AFAIK 250 only used smaller version. The 200 uses a smaller bell than either v8 application). With small flex in large bell, starter will not engage. In the opposite situation, flex draggs on inside of bell. Assuming there is approx 1/8" clearance around the flexplate its OK. The 302 uses a weighted flexplate for balance, not used on 250.
