    So reading this vine I see that the body code for a grabber is 93. Is there a specific body code or trim code for a comet gt

    You were right, when cutting the windshield out I found remains of a dark blue vinyl top. Thanks again for your help.

    I understand this is an older post but, my 73 is new to me and so is this whole process. Thank you for the invaluable knowledge. Here is my VIN for deciphering. Thank you.

    3F91L
    3=1973
    F=Dearborn Assembly Plant - (not many Mavericks are Dearborn cars)
    91 - Maverick 2 dr
    L=250 six engine
    The rest is the unit number ID

    Take a look on your radiator support to see if you have a "buck tag" attached to it. My Dearborn car has one - not many Mavericks do.

    As for the codes found on the vin lable
    62A = standard 2dr
    5L= Ford Tan paint
    W=C4 automatic
    3= 2.79 open axle
    22 = delivered to Charlotte NC area

    The trim HF code I would need to look up in a 73 manual

    Tan paint - Ginger would make sense. Pretty cool it is a Dearborn car.

    Not many came out of Dearborn.
    I don't have the exact number handy, someone will post the correct number I'm sure - but I think it was around 3 or 4% of cars made.

    AFAIK there are no figures pertaining to number of builds at various plants, not something Marti tracks. Dearborn built Mavericks & Comets for '72 & '73 only. I suspect reason was to increase that plant's production, as the "chubby" stangs did not sell all that well. A notable difference from other plants is Dearborn painted engine bays black, as were the Mustangs. NOTE all 1970 Mavericks had black engine compartments. For 1974 only, Ford added Maverick production at Wayne assembly, in '75 they would be tapped to build Granada & Monarch. Interestingly Wayne(nor St Thomas) built Comets, Kansas City & two years at Dearborn only.

    I am not sure how many were built in Dearborn. I would not say they are rare or valuable for just that.

    I see this is a spotty thread, and 6 months later I’m here asking a question…. I have what appears to be a 71 Maverick grabber 3 speed manual… but the vin says it came with a 200 I6…. Didn’t know that was an option with the grabber package… I assume it had to be ordered with the 6 + grabber package?
