Probably at least 20. That includes the ones that were already in "heaven" and I brought them back to my place for an autopsy.

When I was a kid we used to "brick" cars and take bets ( usually in beer) on how long the engines would last .I was never very good at it as I usually bet too long . Sometimes it was pretty spectacular ( GM products )

*brick means put a brick on the gas pedal

was 15 yrs. ago and I probably would salvage both
of them today if ir were possible.

I have sent two and saved two, so I am feeling ok with it. funny thing is one that I sent away was in better shape than my original 73 that i still have. I bought it for parts and used them for my 73 but the parts car had the better body, just I was already attched to my first one. the other car I sent away was a four door so I had no hard feelings. I also saved a 74 that I sold to a friend after fixing it, then bought it back, then sold it to another friend who is still driving it.

    Hey Lightning,
What would you say was the average time before the engines let loose? Would they sieze or break internally, or both? What kinds of Chevys did you explode? :D

    I havent sent any

My first maverick is the one I drive today. I haven't sent a car to the junkyard unless it was dead when I got it....honda civic and an 83 dodge colt, that's it. I can't wait to buy a hot rod mustang or even someone elses hot rod maverick...only to put it's hi-po parts on my own and send it on to the yard. Im not all that innocent...I have taken addvantage of my share of Mavericks that people like you have sent to the yard. I wanted to add that a friend of mine got in one of those sandwhiched type of accident once...the car was totaled and still ran (pinto station wagon with a 4cyl) before it went to the yard he had to have one last run....mind you we were punk kids and this was a nice neighborhood. He had it full throttle and it went a long time before his dad came out flying off the handle. The next day after school we gave it another try....it never died it only filled the neighborhood with smoke.
