I've been reading recklessly about how well these headers fit our cars. I ordered the Jet Hot ones today and probably should have done this first, but being that I felt a sense of comfort from reading the responses, I went ahead and ordered them

The one comment that seemed to be 'constant' is how low these hang to the ground. I have spoke to some of you through PM, but there are a lot more of you out there running these guys I have not spoke to.

A lot of this has to do with how lowered the car is, and there are various differences. This type of info only helps us and future Maverick owners make decisions appropriately regarding our cars, so please take a few minutes to score the poll as best as you can.

The feedback is priceless. I know there is a Thorley shorty out there now, but there is still a group that truly prefers the long tube header for various reasons.

Please take a moment and score the poll.

    Thanks!!

don't have any problems with mine. there seems to be enough ground clearance. course my car is not lowered and is drag only. no speed bumps. but i don't think they would be a problem anyway.:)

Is there a way I can go back (without starting a new thread) and make the results public so that everyone can see the storyline here.

    Sorry, new at this.

Mine is lowered a few inches, and I hit the flanges on speed bumps. I started with 195/6015 on the front and grounded out even going up into my driveway at times (don't ask me how...), but speed bumps were a no go. I then went to 215/60r15 and can clear most speed bumps, but still take them kinda slow or try to avoid them if possible.

I have right at 3" clearance.

If you can, weld your exhaust to the header collector and lose the flange. That flange is what is hitting and you can gain another 1" or so if you cut it off.

Mine has dumps and I take my exhaust off periodically, so I left them bolt-on with flanges.

when i first put mine in my car, i had old front i-6 springs. and when i would go over a speed bump.. it would bottom out on the collector.

i changed to a 302 spring, cut out one coil, and it never bottoms out now

I have a 2 1/4" clearance but the Spookster is in the weeds. I bottom out on some man hole covers and the road if it has a crown to it.

you need to get the kind of headers I have.......only problem is I have no idea what they are. Mine fit "tight" to the floor (ask Dennis or Nick).

Actually Lonnie knows what they are :D
I think the issue with my headers (from what I am told) is some folks say they will not fit on our cars :hmmm:

My 75 is about 1.5" lower than stock and it never had issues with ground clearance.
There were common sense things I did too though.
I didn't go fast over speed bumps, so the springs didn't compress and put the collectors in the asphalt.
I also spun my 3 bolt collector flanges 'up' so that they didn't hang lower than needed. Just make sure one bolt is at 12 o'clock on the collector flange, and the other two will be at about 8 and 4. Gives you another little bit of clearance that you might not have if you don't pay attention to how they go on.

I also ran a deep sump Moroso pan too, so I had more to consider than just headers. The pan hung as low or lower, however, it was between the front tires, so it was never likely to hit anything. When the tires went up, the pan went up too. Not so with headers.

I have run 3 different headers on my car over the years.. Cragar Hotpipes had bad ground clearance,,stock height car. Doug Thorleys were not a problem on stock height car. 6901's are not a problem with a 2 inch front lowering. Speed bumps always have to be taken into consideration with any header.

If you don't mind, what is the cost of the Jet-Hot 6901s? I'm considering getting them also and retiring my 20 year-old Blackjacks. I had Jet-Hot coat the Blackjacks and they still look good after five or six years.

They are $379 and $406 to the door. They charge $275 if you send them a long tube type header of your own and $180 for a shorty style header. Makes sense to just get them from them. They can get/coat just about any header out there you want... including Blackjacks.

How did the BJ's hold up and did they really fight off the heat in your engine bay.
