The axles are the same as the one-legger rear-ends.

I think Auburn Gear makes a Traction-Lok unit for the 8-inch...

I had a lock-rite locker in the 8 inch with the stock axles before changing to the 9 inch with a spool and 35 spline Moser axles.

There is plenty out there for the stock axles. I was leaning toward powertrax, but got cheap and went with a mini spool for $40, or maybe $60. I don't recommend that, save up the $350 and put in a "limited slip" locker.

    Thanks guys

How many splines is the stock axle? And is it worth upgrading if I'm just doing a mild build of a 302? Or will the stock axles be fine?

Stock axles work fine, seen several 8"s in 11-12 sec cars with no more than gears/spool.

Actually I was just doing some calculating and it may seem like 4.10s would be too much. I need everyones opinion.. It would be like a 25in-26in tall tire with a c-4. With 4.10s it would spin at around 3,400rpms, seems a bit much

I would suggest something in the 3.90 range, it's a good street strip, stoplight to stoplight gear. The 28 spline axles (stock) are the same as the 9 inch 28 spline axles. Fine for a car that is mostly street. Save for some sort of posi or locker and the gears will make the most noticable change. Good luck!

You don't have as many choices with an 8 inch vs 9 inch

    Typical ratios on new gears
    3.00, 3.25, 3.40, 3.55, 3.80, 4.11, 4.62

If you are using a stock to mild cam, a set of 3.55 gears would be the ideal for the street. If you are going to use an AOD or a 5-speed, you can get away with 3.90 and lower gears. An AOD with a 4.11 gear would have a final drive ratio of around 2.85. That's having your quick performance and gas mileage, too.

Its going to be a c-4 for the time being. So.. I'll look around at my options, I guess it'll be between a 3.55 or 3.80
