ok, novak USED to make mounts for the buick v6 into a pinto/maverick, but i cannot find them. i contacted customer help and they want the measurements between the frame rails..lol.
i guess he means unibody rails =)

anyone have an engineless maverick that can take measurements for me so i can tell them? i would like the width on both the SBF and inline 6 (maybe the 250 measurements if they differ from the 200).

p.s.-i bought an 84 fuel inj 3.8 grand national motor for my sons mav. it promises to be MY mav if its as fast as i think itll be. hell, i might put the mustang II front end and a IRS in the rear and make it a touring/race car..rofl!

anyway, i would appreciate if anyone can hook me up with a couple of good numbers (not to hookers) =)

That's a swap I've never heard of... would be interesting. A buddy of mine used to have a S10 with the grand national engine in it, was a quick truck.

Too bad you didn't post this a few days earlier when I was in NC, could have taken the measurements no problem. If no one has posted within the next few days when I go back up there, I'll get them for you.

that should be a fun little car but ou may need that MII front to get it in. SB buicks arent exactly a narrow engine espically with those turbo manifolds on the side.

wonder if they can draw me up a set of olds motor mounts :)?

the turbo aspect bolts on the top and forces air strait down. only the exhaust manifolds are on the side. the down under and 'round the side pipes are tucked in nice and neat. its actually smaller than a 302 from what i have seen. i know my jeep motor is narrow as hell even with the hedders stickin out it fits within the frame rails on a narrow/short early cj5. hopefully, geometry taken into account and weather holding (maybe kill 2 chickens and dance nekked in a winters moon), it should fit no probs. just taking the time to do the mounts. i might just get a set of towers from all of the different setup and see which one is closest (anyone have any then can loan me for setting purposes? wont be for a year or 2 tho).
i want it setting back a ways so i will have room for a large intercooler in front of the radiator and electric fan setup. being that the distr is in the front of the buick like on the ford, it can shift backward to make room. but then again, the v6 is 5.5 inches shorter than the buick 350 which i know is shorter that the 302/351, so i should be good on room. the 350 buick is wider, but shorter than the sbf i believe, but the v6 i believe is more narrow than the sbf.i also have a buick 350 sitting at my moms with a draw through turbo complete setup from the early 79 buicks. i could make a bracket and weld the induction pipe onto the bracket and mount it to the 4bbl intake and make a 350 turbo (which uses the same mounts as the v6). i could make a hair dryer buick 350 which would make GOBS of tourqe with its 3.850 (3.860 is the ford 460) stroke. but, i like the 380 lbs or so of the v6 vs the 450 from the buick 350. and with the hair dryer on it, it "should" be a descent little car. i am looking for a 4.1 block to stroke out and mount this whole turbo intake too. itll go from a 3.8 to a 4.4 and from 3.40" to 3.625" crank, so it "should" be a torquey puppy in its own rights. if anyone knows anyone with a 4.1 block in descent shape, let me know. i will send em cash for it and have it shipped to my moms for when i return.
i am a dihard ford fan, butcha gotta give props to that "little motor that could" that outran the 'vette in '87. :yahoo:
besides, if i can fit this one in, i will get a maverick for my son and we can 302 his and race em to see who's is the quicker. i am also changing the boost level to about 17 lbs on an adjustable dial. so i will run 5 in town, and kick 17-20 when i run her. so the intercooler is a must (hence the desired short engine). i am thinking v6 turbo with a 200r4 or powerglide/gear vendors over drive behind it with 3.55's in the rear. the gear splitter will give me 1st gear, then 1st OD which will kick it up into the turbo range for when i hit 2nd. then split 2nd for an over drive aspect. that coupled with a 3000 locking stall and it should be a vicious puppy on 15+ lbs of boost. for ever 15 lbs of boost (1 bar), you theoretically double your engine size. so this 4.4l will become an 8.8 lt or from 270 CI to a 540 CI (in theory). so..that being "close" to the case, the maverick with sub frame connectors and phat rear tires should stop yer heart when it hits 2nd gear (minimum break your neck). **note to self-might need head rests**
its all in the air right now...either itll go in mav, or i will throw it in my jeep (and put wheelie bars on it).
    :rofl2:

this is true eddie, but mine is a small block whereas the ones u stated r bigblock.. and most torque was made in the muscle car years by a buick 455..

    is it a 109 block or just a n/a 3.8?

i believe the only factory muscle car that mad more tq then the 70 buick GSX was the 67 GT500

buicks do make stupid amounts of tq, i'd still take an oldsmobile tho ;)

heres a little factoid for you, 3.8's sit on the same motor mounts as SB and BB buicks and a 3.8 would be just as wide as a SBB so if someone's making the motor mounts that opens up alot of swap possibilities for you buick fans

Buick motor in a Maverick... That just doesn't seem right!

I guess the nice thing is you wouldn't have to worry about another maverick showing up at the car show with a buick motor in it.

    Good luck with your project.
