Is there a difference between a grabber package tray with ac. vs. a non grabber package tray with ac.

the package tray in my car had padding along the front that i dont think ive seen in other cars with a tray but i dont think that was a grabber option one way or the other

    Don't think there's any difference.

I've got a few of the trays but only one with the padding like you are talking about. It's in a 73 LDO so I'm thinking it is either a 73 option or an LDO option. Not sure which but I'm sure somebody else may be able to let us know.
As for the original question, I believe all a/c trays would be the same or interchangeable in the case of the padded one.

there is a deffence between the a/c and non a/c ones. non-a/c ones dont have the vents. which is another reason i dont think mine came from an LDO car since it doesnt have the round vents and i thought a/c was part of the LDO option

To your question '' YES ''' there is a differance between the non a/c and a/c lower dash package trays . The non a/c trays are deeper in the heater area than the a/c trays .The a/c trays also have a raised area on the rigth and left end for the ball vents to clear the front edge of the tray .

    JAY

P/S I converted my car form non a/c to factory a/c. HOPE THIS HELPS.

The LDO package was just trim goodies. More sound insulation, bucket seats, vinyl roof and more interior and exterior trim. AC was never standard equipment in any 1970's Ford or Mercury, only the 70-76 T-birds and all Lincolns had it as standard. And yes, only the 72-1/2 to 73-1/2 LDO package trays had the vinyl covering. One year only.
I actually owned a 75 Mercury Grand Marquis that was not a AC car, hard to believe!

I think you may have read the original question wrong. He was asking if there was a difference between the grabber and non-grabber a/c trays.

This is probably correct, but the LDO option and padded trays were available in both the 72 and 73 model years (and as he said, with or without a/c). I've also seen the 73 LDO's with the glove compartment, so they were available either way, no doubt based on month of manufacture.

As for Grabber and standard Maverick, both had the same a/c package trays. The 1970 Maverick tray was different in that it is made from a much heavier resin-type fiberglass material.

Here is a photo of one of the padded LDO trays with a/c.
