Heres an update on the Maverick project, the rear is narrowed, and the 4 link and diagnoal are installed, with the coilovers,The axles came in Fri. and I built a Detroit Locked 4.88 Pig for it,I fit the tubs all in it and they will be reinstalled and welded in Mon.Last week I finished the cage door bars and fit the seat, should have all the tin work done this week. Then we will move onto the Must.II front,I"ll try to do good pic.s and a lot of measurements to follow along with on the front for you guys thinking of doing it yourself.Jack
actionrpm it looks like you welded the cross member to the stock frame rails instead of going to the rockers is this way stronger? I did see that you cut them off at the cross member and plate them just wanting to know if this is a better way. nice job it looks really good and I to like the paint job.
My customer wants to race it this summer, the motors done and I should have the Must II and motor mounts in within a couple weeks,I"ll see if he'd want to bring it out there,it's only about 4 hr.s or so,from here.Jack
Actually it's Blackhawk Frame bench from the mid '80s,you would rent fixtures from Blackhawk for each specific make and model when repairing frame damage,or replacing rails, and there were also universal fixtures, thats what I use, notice it says Ford Rotunda...If it was in a Chevy dealer it would say Delco.Works great for what I use it for,Thanks Jack
Somewere way back in this thread I noted that I like to leave the stock rails in until cage and everything was welded in to keep the body from moving around, although on the bench it stays in place really good,I plated the inside of the rail first then welded X-member to it ,Every job is a little different, but after just putting ladded bar coilover under my Mav.right before I started this one,I noticed the spring perch area is double and triple layers of heavy metal, good place to tie all of it in that way,the inner rocker a lot of time is just sheetmetal,so you just kinda find the strongest way to do it on each different vehicle. Thanks Jack
I finished the tub part of this project today, tubs and floor are done, aligned everything for a final time, brakes are all finished,I like to use the 11" '73-'79 F-150 rear brakes, they are cheap, big, and they really stop good, then I just redrill the drums to whatever pattern I'm using .Put all my tabs on for brake hose and org.Mav.E-brake cables, filled rear with lube and put tires on for the last time(customer bringing correct lug nuts)Time to move to the front and start the Must II conversion..Thanks for following along,Jack
