    Hi, Everyone,

It's been a while, but I'm back. So, here's my situation. I have a maverick that needs a paint job, a new motor, and a new trans. I have a 302 torn apart in the garage, that needs minor routine rebuild work, and a rebuild kit. The only major problem with it is the pins are a little sloppy, so I need new ones. Another option would be to find a completely rebuilt enigine and trans to throw in there. Or, I could store it, and buy a Sky. The reason this causes such a major dilemma is because my parents are angry that I'm moving out, so everything in the garage of mine goes when I move out. So, I'd need to get the engine rebuilt and put in my car as soon as possible. And I've never rebuilt an engine before, so I don't have experience under my belt, and pops certainly isn't going to help me either. I could buy a rebuilt engine and trans and throw it in there, but again, I don't exactly know what I'm doing. And I'm sure that storing it and getting the Sky are WAY out of your guys' mindset. So, what do I do?!?!

Get a 5.0 out of a junk yard and swap it in.

I got one for $200, and could put it in this weekend if I had another $200 for the new flywheel and some other odd parts.

    What is a Sky?

    a saturn sky?

i'd look for an engine thats cheap and runs and drop it in. youll have plenty of time to learn to be a mechanic once you get your stuff out of the folks place and settle in to your new residence

Whoa :rofl2: I didn't even see that as a listed option. I guess that'll work too.
If you are talkin Saturn Sky, I'd say:16suspect. I'd fix the Mav for sure. Rebuilding an engine ain't all that hard, if you got the time thats is. Tell the folks to chill and let you use that garage to rebuild your car. If thats not an option then I'd say go with Craigs answer and do whatever you need to do.

The reason I say that is becuase if you are not mechanically inclined, chances are the Mav is gonna sit forever and rot, and what good would that be? ( I truly hope that doesn't happen for you)

If you can swing it, get the Mav going.

I want to agree with Craig... it really sounds like you do not have the skill and resources to pull this off at this time. May not be motivating, but you have to be real about it.

If you are determined, I'd pick up a cheap good running 302 and throw it in there. If this car will be depended upon as a main source of transportation, you need to closely inspect the car and question what else it will need in the short term. How is the suspension? U joints? brakes? Transmission? Cooling system? Electrical? The maintenance can all really start piling on and get overwhelming quick if this car has not been well maintained in the past, like most of these cars.

If the car will need more then just an engine to be a daily ride in the short term, I would consider selling it or storing it (out of the weather).

unfortunately, i'd have to agree with the afformentioned ditching of your repair plan. if pop wont help out, and both are upset your leavin... sounds like storage wont be an option there either. and i gotta ask... why do you want a sky??? did something happen out in that garage with the mav that went bad for you to suddenly switch tracks. oooh, i shudder to think.
    better luck next time kiddo.

you bad maverick you, bad... :rofl2:

of course im just being facetious here, but really, can you swing the storage elsewhere, and the rebuild, r& r of a motor/trans? got any buddies that can help?

i guess it depends on how much money you got.. if you got money to go buy a junkyard engine and have someone put it in, then leave all you sh!t in your parents garage and come back when you got the v8 in it and do a bigass burnout ur dads driveway...:yup:
