Howdy everybody! My name is Eric and I'm from Chicago. I was huge into cars for a long time. I had a '68 Cadillac, a '71 Riviera, '81 CJ7, and a beater '77 Cutlass and a beater '77 Cougar. I always have loved pushrod V8's and I've always lusted for '67 Mustang Fastback and/or '67 Fairlane. Anyway, long story short...cars because more and more expensive for me to keep. And I never thought I was getting the bang for the buck I wanted. I didn't make whole lot of money then and I just couldn't stetch my dollar. So I went to motorcycles. Much cheaper, easier to work on. Fast as anything out there and handle like a scapel. No cruisers for me, just sportbikes. Absolutly love them, (and no, I'm not one of those helmetless morons doing 120 between cars durring rush hour). I love the twisty back roads and the track. I had an old small Honda parallel twin, and '05 Yamaha FZ6 and currently I have a '97 Suzuki TL1000S. Motorcycles have been my life for several years and I'd never give it up. But over the last 10 years or so I've gotten better and better jobs. I'm at the point now that I make a very good living and I want to get back into cars. Specifically, I want to build a Maverick with a 5.0 motor and 6-speed. Nothing super fancy. Somewhat of a resto-mod on the cheap. Something I can build and actually drive and be proud of, but not worry if it gets rained on. It's a car I've been wanting to build forever and I've had the plan in my head for a decade. Now might be the time to start in on it. Anyway, thats my long rant and thats why I'm here. Cheers guys!
Thanks to both you guys! I think I have decent taste in cars. The Caddy was the worst of the bunch, (Eldorado...2nd year of FWD and it ate front suspension parts on a weekly basis....and the replacement parts weren't cheap). The Riv was the best. God I miss that Buick. But the '67 Fairlane I want would be the mutts nuts if you ask me
yea believe it or not im a big fan of those massive 2 door GM cars. i havent been able to get my hands on anythng more vintage then 1980's G-bodes tho. i'd like to have an early 455 toro one day tho
You really don't, trust me. The early Toronados shared most of the same FWD parts as the early Eldorados. Wheel bearings and the half-shafts don't last at all. I must have went thru 3 or 4 shafts and bearings. The wheel bearings are huge and I think they went for $300 each. The shafts were only about $100 each but the drivers side one is a ROYAL pain in the ass to get in and out. The torsion bar front suspension is very strange also. No springs up front. Just very weird hadling. I'd really stay away from early GM FWD. '67 - '70 were the worst. Wow this is bringing back bad memories lol
I know. Mechanically they're almost identical and they're great looking cars...I just wouldn't buy another one... http://www.vfrclc.org/images/TWal68.JPG Get a Riv! Mine was just like this. Red with a black top and Buick mags http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/buick-17.jpg
