About 2 months ago I had the windshield seal replaced because there was a leak in the upper driver's side corner. I have had the windshield guy come and try to fix it about 3 or 4 times, and it still leaks, and I am getting really tired of it. Has anybody else had this much trouble?

The windshield guy supplied it, but I think you can get them from Autokrafters.

Did the window installer use the right kind of seal??? (inner/outer lip type) or one of those universal cosmetic only seals from the out side seals??? if so then that could be the problem as the rest of the seal is only butyrate goo and not the correct way to install glass in our cars.Gotta use the correct seal.

I believe he had the correct seal, but I did not get a good look at it.

I had some glass work done on my bonneville last winter. Got to talking to the guy and inquired about the cost of a new maverick windshield and install. He said nobody at his shop (the leading glass shop here) knew how to do our type cars. He had to call in an old employee for jobs like that. Knowledge is being lost on work like this for our cars. It is a very basic thing to do, but leaks can be a problem. I always use some sealant on the outside edge prior to install. My Stallion leaks, but it has the original seal in it and it is shot. But it never sees wet weather unless I get caught in out in it, and that is rare.

Wasn't there an issue about the thickness of the glass compared to the slot in the gasket? I seem to remember something about aftermarket windshields being thinner than Ford windshields???

It is VERY difficult to stop all the leaks even when using a new seal.

the best way is to use a sealer between the glass and gasket as well as between the body and gasket on our cars. Its messy as all hell but wont leak when done this way.

You need to ask the guy if he has done older cars like the maverick. With the newer cars sealing windows is a lot differant. I found a place that knows what there doing. They also do the old mustangs same type of window. If he cann't fix it find somebody else who can.

I had an original factory windshield installed in mine and I told the installer when he was doing it "Its gonna leak when you are done."

He looked at me like I wascrazy and said "No it won`t it will be be fine."

I saw him in town a few weeks later and he proudly said "Windshild is FINE ain`t it?" I said " No ...It leaks just like I told you it would."

He couldn`t believe it and said "Man I`m sorry let me come by and make it right ?" I told him not to worry about it cause Almost all Maverick windshield leak and it wasn`t his fault.

I still believe he thought I was just messin with him and that it really doesn`t leak.

So do you guys just live with the leak, or is there something you do to fix it?
