Lately while I've been planning the restoration of my maverick a thought has been plaguing me. I want a 2 door. I have a 4 door. I know that a maverick is the car for me. I love everything about it. Four doors just bug me. I've never been able to own a 2 door. Never. I've had 4 cars before the maverick and they were all four doors. With any other car I would just sell it and get the one I want, but this maverick I bought from a very nice man who loved this car. I'd feel bad just basically tossing it out just because it's a 4 door. So I'm stuck. I'm ready to start work on the car soon, but I know I'll always be wishing it was a 2 door. I know this seems silly, but it's been on my mind a lot. Any thoughts?

    You asked for thoughts:

Honestly.....I see nothing special here that would encourage you to keep it or restore it. Actually....I see quite a bit of bondo popping up....which would have me second guessing doing anything to this car.

I would recommend using it as a learning tool. Learn how to work on it, tune it, repair it, etc. Could be the cheapest "schooling" you will ever have to pay for.

    Those are my thoughts.

P.S. My thoughts have nothing to do with it being a 4-door. My thoughts would be the same if this car was a 2-door as well.

Find a loving home for it and buy a 2 door. If it goes to a good home, you are not tossing it out. If you're going to sink lots of money into a project car make sure it is what you want, or at the end of it all you will have a nice 4 door, but still wish you had a 2 door.

The only way I would build a 4 door is if I had some sort of truly unique plan for it. Like some day I would like to build a 4 door with the '69 Mustang front end and just go all out making it basically a 4 door Mustang. I'm with Craig, that car looks to have some serious body work issues coming. I'd either part it out or use it as a daily driver.

There is a lot of bondo all over that car. Since that picture I've found a lot of quarter panel issues.

That's how I'm leaning. I'll never be totally happy with it.

I'm going to try and post it up here to sell. I'm not sure what I can get for it, though. I'd at least like to make the money back that I paid for it.

SooooulPower have your read your definition of a Maverick? Seems like a sweet build of a 4 door is the epitome of a "Maverick" the only thing more "Maverick" would be A 4 Door Comet!" You have already dared to be differrent in restoring a Maverick to begin with , Restore it then, if you still have the itch for a 2 door start another project seems most guys finish a project then want another one anyway..

It's just a car, sell it and buy another.

Yeah. i know it would certainly be different to try, but my biggest issue is I'm practically flat broke. I just don't have the money to get all the stuff I need. By the time I'm done I might as well get the one I want. This is really bumming me out.

Use it for a beater & get to know Mavericks in general with it.Then when you find a good 2dr builder you'll already be familiar with all the little quirks & problem areas of these cars.

Well I hear you on that, I have been 10 years owning my Comet, and only in the last 1 1/2 years have I gotten anything done, and I have yet to touch the body' that's just to get it so it doesn't break down somewhere on me.
Sell it here then get the 2 door, there are some 4 door guys here that would really like it.. heck if I had the space and money I'd look at it. good luck though!
