...pulled my leaking heater core today and found that it had frozen...

took it by the shop and found out that with an ...A/C car...you can't run straight water...at all. when i fire up a new motor, i run straight water untill i am sure i want have to drain it for any reason...then flush and put the coolant in.
i was having a low heat situation...i checked everything and all was well...that i could see. what i didn't see was the frozen heater core.if it hadn't started leaking i would still be chasing a low heat problem...no air could pass through the core.

#1 pic. shows the buldge in the old core...

#2 pic. shows the light from a flashlight shining through the new core.

#3 pic. shows the light from a flashlight not shining through the old core.

whatever that A/C part that's in the heater box is what froze the heater core...

Put down the cookies Frank....I think they are affecting your judgement.

How could the evaporator freeze your heater core??

Don't know but that was the only thing that froze...:yup:
you would think that the radiator would freeze and bust before the heater core (inside the car) would.

How cold was it outside? I don't see how the A/c would freeze the heater core...

Anti-Freeze is also Anti-Corrosion .. you should never run straight water. You are lucky that only the heater core froze ... and not your block and heads ....

Has this heater core ever been out before? Looks to me like it's been needing changing for a while. Looks more like a corrosion problem instead of frezing. And I don't think the a/c could have anything to do with it. Never heard of anything like that ever happening. :hmmm:
