Only 6 months old? Yes, Ford had some paint problems. Matter of fact, Ford, GM, and Chrysler all had peeling issues for quite a few years. I made lots of money on the Ford ones. I was told that it was due to the Federal Gov't making them leave the lead out of automotive paints. That's a whole different issue though from what they 1-day paint jobs have. Poor prep/cheap paint!
My Uncle paints cars, he lives 2 blocks from Busch Gardens in Tampa, if he can't do it, maybe he can hook you up???
Wasn't it called De-lamination?? or something like that? I had an 88 5.0L Mustang that I bought when it was six months old, the hood and the roof pealed, I also had a 89 F150 that did the same thing, Ford payed to paint them both! With the truck it was funny, we had to goto the dealer at a certain time, they had about 15 trucks in a line, a guy was walking up, sticking a piece of Duct Tape to the hood and pulling it off, if paint came off, you got a paint job!
I had an 87 F250 that got repainted but they wouldn't do anything with the van. Not sure what brand will replace the Windstar when it comes time.
LOL...That's the way Ford told us to test the panels. We were suppose to paint only panels that would peel. I always claimed that all panels were delaminating though. I had no desires to strip the paint off half a vehicle and repaint just that half. My dealership at the time was Lincoln-Mercury-Toyota. We just got the overrun from our sister store (Ford Dealer) and it was still more than I could handle. We were stripping and repainting 1-2 trucks every week for over 1 1/2 years. Ford actually paid good money for us to do them which was surprising.
welcome, you could always choose option three and spend some time with your car and learn to paint at the same time, when you get finished, you will enjoy your ride much more if you do do the(or at least some of)work yourself.
Paint job I havent had many cars painted, but the cost can range from 800-1000, with minimal body work. However, if ur gonna do it right, get a good reputable body shop, and strip the car down. There are a lot of hidden places for rust to hide,if you dont get it,it will come back to haunt you. Expect a 5000-10000 price tag depending on the work, and paint product used. I spent 7000 on mine, had a very straight, rust free S.C. car, but I had it stripped, treated, and painted with a imron enamel, and 2 coats of clear. Dont expect it back in a hurry either, and let your body man do his thing. If you plan on keeping the car for a while, I reccommend the stripping and painting.
