We tried to drop in the 302 expecting no problems. We are using stock(don't know what year etc.) exhaust manifolds and the engine just gets stuck between the shock towers. Whats the deal here? Should i try remowing the exhaust manifolds, drop the engine in and then see if the manifolds will fit in there. Do you guys actually have a clearence between the shock towers and exhaust? I have seen some 60's cast manifolds that were really slim, those would fit for shure. Let me know what you think. I dont have a picture of the tight fit but here are some pics of the engine and engine bay.

edit: Stock mav/comet? Nobody ever mentioned this pretty important piece of information... The ones i have are probably from a mustang. So back to looking/waiting for parts.

Yes, you will have to take the manifolds off before you can put the engine in. And no, those you have will not work. They are much too wide. You will need either stock Maverick manifolds or aftermarket headers. Hopefully you can find some closer to you but if not, I have a set of stock manifolds I would sell. I'm just not sure what shipping would be to Finland. Good luck...and let me know if I can help any further.

Thanks for the help. I just sent an email to the other comet owner in finland asking for the original manifolds. Yes! two comets that i know of are registered in finland and one of them is our car. Damm the distance between the promised land of comet parts and finland :rofl2: If we decide to get headers how can i tell wich will fit and wich won't? If i browse the summit site there isn't any info on how wide the headers are.

Hooker 6901's are what most of the guys are using in the Mavericks.

With the right manifolds, you can bolt them to the engine first, then put the engine in the car. It is much easier that way.

If you get a set of the hooker 6901's. you will need to put the engine in first and then jack the car up and put them in from underneath. On mine the passenger side fit up there, but on the drivers side I needed to jack the engine up a couple of inches. Hope you can get the originals if possible.:)

when i put 6901's in my '71, the car was up on ramps in the driveway and the passenger side fit in just fit but i had to jack up the driver's side about another foot to get the right angle for the header to go in. probably wasnt the safest way but it worked :)

Yeah, I suppose you can. I just don't like scratching my shock towers all up. If you're not too worried about that then it should be no problem. :)

You wont scratch them all up if your not careless :p.
The factory ones should fit between there with them bolted on. They origionaly came with brkts to pull the motor also. Mine did...

Put the engine in first then bolt the manifolds on. With shock tower braces off, the manifolds are a piece of cake to install. You can do everything from the top. That's the way I did mine anyway.
