Guys just curious what your estimates are, what kind of HP do you think I'll be running with stock heads, stock cam, 4 bbl carb, and headers? I estimate 175 to 200, do you think that is close?
The 86 Stang HO 5.0's hp rating was 200 hp. That's with the same E6 heads your 89 Marquis motor has, but with a better upper/lower intake. So expect at least 10-15 hp less with the HO cam in that motor. You could bump it back up with a set of 1.7 roller rockers
quick question i hope isnt too far off topic im getting a built roller motor tomorrow that spent some time in a fox anyway can i take the timing cover and and that wheel off my cam and put it on the roller motor from my '77 302?
Shouldn't be a problem. But one little revision was made to the 5.0's at some point in the 80's, and that was Ford counter bored two timing cover bolt holes to install alignment dowels for the timing covers, the covers were also modified to fit the dowels. If the cover you use doesn't have the dowel provision, leave the dowels off the block as well, if they're still in place. You'll have to align the cover using the balancer. With the dowels, you just bolt in in place without using the balancer.
That's the fuel pump eccentric. There are two types, solid 1 pc and stamped steel 2 pc. The 1 pc will work as long as the cam pin sticks out far enough to engage the eccentric
What kind of roller rockers does my 89 roller motor have now compared to the 1.7 set you are referring to? Also what does the 1.7 represent? What application do I look up 1.7 rockers? 86 Mustang roller rockers? It sounds like you are saying that getting the 5.0 HO cam is not enough I have to change out my roller rockers too. What kind of HP can I expect with stock cam stock roller rockers, stock heads a 600 cfm 4 Barrel carb, and new intake, I'll run an HEI Dist, and I'll run headers.
What are your thoughts on this intake from an 83 Mustang 5.0 HO http://desmoines.craigslist.org/pts/632629002.html
Jegs is showing a front sump swap kit , do I need all that stuff ? it has front timing cover and dipstick and gasket for timing cover. Won't I just need the gasket for the pan, and the pick up and the front sump pan , will i need that timing cover and dip stick?, Can I use the timing cover off the 84 motor and put it on the 89? I can keep the current oil pump right? Here's the link http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/50300K/10002/-1/757661|10457
Your Marquis motor didn't have roller rockers. The only factory application that used these were the 93-95 Cobra 5.0's. They will though bolt right onto your heads. Crane made em for Ford and now sell them under their "Energizer" line. As for HP output with all you listed, don't expect more than 200 with those heads. HEI on a Fordcoco: ?
You can use your present timing cover, unless you're going to use a mechanical fuel pump.(use whichever cover has the fuel pump boss cast in) The dipstick hole will need to be drilled and a dipstick tube and stick will need to be bought. (Summit p/n G3867) Same oil pump for all years.
im bulding a 302 out of a 89 mustang, and i really like the hei setup i got for 80 bucks, i thaught about it and didnt go with the duraspark, i know its original but i dont like wires. just my 2 cents
