Back to the jackstands. Broke my driveshaft last night at the strip. I think I know what caused it, too much pinion angle. Was running on borrowed time. Going to cut the spring perches loose and reset the angle. Need to go over to Todd's and get the rearend I bought from him and get it ready to install. So it goes. Jerry

Man that sucks. Hope you had a DS loop to contain it! I've seen them come through the floor before. where did it break? Finish line? Starting line? Jackstand races--don't feel bad. Dad's fearmont is up on stands too. Mine is still kicking as it the rustang but for how long...noone knows. Dad's is going to be on stands for a while! Lots of work to do.
Been there, done that! What I ended up doing was to remove the 8 inch and I had a 9 inch housing. I wanted to keep the brakes and drums, so I had a friend cut the ends (about 7 inches each) off the 8 inch rear and then cut down the 9 inch to make it the same width and put the ends of the 8 inch on the 9 inch housing. Worked like a charm. Now if I need any kind of brake parts or axle bearing it's still for a 74 Maverick. P.S. Summit Racing has the spring perches they just list them for a Dodge. Blessing Bossmav
found the gremblin This turned the driveshaft loose. Boss, that's the same setup I'm using. Todd, yep, have a driveshaft loop. Still sounded like it was coming through the floor, lol. Dan, I have it sitting level with the ground. That never has felt correct. I heard it was supposed to give better forward bite. I don't know, just need to start over with this end. I also noticed my right rear slick is rubbing ever so slightly on takeoff.

In my humble opinion- 2degrees min and 6 max but 2-4 is perfect.U joints work better when they have a slight angle. 0 is not the answer.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. It was pointed down when I got it but knew that couldn't be right so I put wedges between the housing and springs to level it. Even then I wasn't happy but ran it anyway. Live and learn. Ha!
The pinion angle and the transmission yoke angle should be the same. If the transmission yoke is at 87 degrees from the ground then the pinion angle should be 87 degrees. That will eliminate any rotational out of balance between the two ends of the driveline.
