As soon as the fire started, couldn't he have turned off the bottle? Even if it was in the trunk, it seems like there was plenty of time to get at it.
Hmm... Time to come up with some sort of cut off for the nitrous/fuel if the engine stops running or drops oil pressure or something...That really hurts,I feel bad for the guy,but you think he would have made an attempt to turn the bottle off.And whats with the fire crew!!?? jeeze!!they obviously havent lost chassis yet.
Wow what a loss. Doesn't seem like anyone was in a hurry to put out that fire. I can imagine that track needed some paving work as well.
If their that quick at putting out a fire, god forbid someone hit the guardrail or go off the end of the track, what would they do then? just call a hearse?
while I share that very same thought just remember there would be even more people saying "it's just a maverick" So I will say glad the guy got out......and makes you wonder how safe any of it really is...... Screw it we all gotta die some time!!!!! and if I died racing that's about as good as it gets
Timeout.....how many times have you seen a fire truck at the drag strip, a meat wagon yes. Looks like the track officals tried to put it out while the firefighters were on the way to the dragstrip. Even if they were there it takes a few minute to get the air tanks and other protective gear on and the pump to pump water (been there and breathed that crap before). We had a interesting car fire the other night at a demo derby, bonehead was running jet fuel in a beer drum and lost a fuel line inside the cab of the car (we dont have a airport in our district so we done have the class foam to put out jet fuel). I was the nozzleman on the call and had neat flames dancing all around me until I could work the leaking tank out of the side of the car (it burnt for nearly 10 minutes until then).
Scary how it started with just a brief little hiccup. Barely noticeable. I think I will stick with unleaded...
They already have something for that. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1∂=NOS-16058NOS&N=700+400047+115&autoview=sku To clarify, turning off the NOS won't stop the fire as it is just an oxidizer and the fuel is what's burning... but it would definitely be easier to put out. This is why it's important to incorporate a fuel cutoff switch with your electric fuel pump.
