What is this part right here?Does it haveanyhing to do with my glovebox door like is this how it latchs?
Bingo that is what it is for, i know because awhile back i pulled most of my dash apart to fix a few things.
It's just alot of nuts and screws to undo and it takes a fair bit of time to do it. Oh yeah and you need tiny hands to get at some things (that's where the wife comes in). To take out the entire dash i can't help you with that one as all i did was remove the lower dash piece, the piece that 408w-maverick asked about, glove box door, glove box itself, heater core, stereo, cigarette lighter, dash pad, and i pulled apart the dash gauges to replace burnt out lights. After i fixed or replaced what needed to be replaced i put it back together for the 2nd NMCC Maverick Comet mini meet which was the next day, all in all it's a pain in the a$$ to do but rather easy if you take your time.
ok so it goes between the lower plastic peice that comes off and the upper dash with the gauges and all that jazz? And how does the glove box door latch, cause i have no glove box and want the door closed to hide that fact lol
I had to get my daughter to remove the one in here car. i couldnt get my hands in there. It is a pain to get in and out. The slip on covers are great and come in different colors
First off you need to bolt the plastic piece (lower piece) to the bottom of the upper dash. Now with it hanging off the bottom, your metal piece will get bolted on to the bottom of your plastic piece and the sides of you car (by the bottom door hinges) as it acts as a place and a guide to bolt the bottom of the plastic piece into place. If i recall correctly the smooth side of your metal piece points down and the sharp lipped side points up. When all of this is LOOSELY in place the holes should line up and also allow you to move them around a little bit. Once you find all the holes and screw everything into place then tighten all the bottom screws. Your door (glove box door) , the hinge is screwed into THAT metal piece from the bottom (a row of screws). At this point your door should open and close with the glove box latch part being attached to the lower plastic pieces glove box opening. Just remember, to make the door of the glove box fit properly in the hole, it all needs to be lightly screwed together then tighten with the glove box door closed. I hope this helps and makes some degree of since.
I wrote a tech article about it years ago. It's really old, but the info may still prove to have some value: http://www.maverickcomet.com/TechArticles/RemoveDash/RemoveDash.asp
Dont forget the top of the dash is screwed in. The screws are accessed by removing the windshield. I snugged all mine up before we put the glass back in. I'd paint the dash in place if I were you. Unless you have the glass out that is. Have fun.
