What one? One that was on a 5.0L? The dist gears are different for a roller cam engine compared to a hyd cam engine. http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/
Yep, depends which distrributor. In an EFI car the computer controls the spark timing, there usually isn't an advance mechanism so the only thing you can set is initial advance. You could run a lot of advance, 30*-36*, I guess it would be same as carbed guys running a locked out distributor.
Since I've joined the forum I see that many people go with the 5.0 HO rather than a 351W, what are the advantages?
if you takeing a fuel injection motor and puting a carb on it you should get the distrubor for 85 mustang with a 5.0 and manual transmission. it has the proper gear for the cam, a vac advance and mechanical advance. it works with the ford duraspark box or with a msd ignition box. people are choseing the the 5.0 ho over the 351w because of the ease of installation. primarly its the exhast that is the problem. the shock towers are really close to the the heads. there are mods that can be done to to the shock towers and there are headers that work but they are expensive. you can build a 347 stroker motor that fits in with out any problems that you would have with a 351
run a distributor from an '85 GT 5sp car. it has a duraspark setup plus will work with a roller cam as these came with a steel gear. they're like $48 at your local Advance or other parts house. that's your best bet
Do you mean that the small size will help on the decrease of modifications to install it in a Maverick? Thanks Dave
