hello my fellow mavers, please school me. if my 71 grabber does not sell then i will restore it. i have already located the panels to fix what i feel should be fixed. my question is that a friend of mine has a complete disc brake set up from a 1978 granada. the set is freshly built and ready to go. what is involved or needed to make the swap. i dont care about power discs, manual discs are fine. i just wanted to know what all is needed, as far as prop valve, lines and such. tim
If you can get a set of Maverick disc brake steel lines that connect just inside the passenger fender and to the prop valve on the drivers side and the brackets that hold it to the frame were the steel meets rubber lines it would be a big help, also will need tie rod ends for the Granada spindles, some people say to use a master cylinder for a disc drum car also.
I was told that you don't have to change the proportion valve for one. I was also told to change the spindles for the ones used for discs. Not sure that the Granada ones will work. I used some off of a Mav that had disc. Other than that just put it all on. The hoses on mine wer pointed wrong so I had to redo the steel lines so that they would point in the right direction as they were kinking.
I used later maverick spindles and the only thing i needed was new rubber lines. I'm still using the stock proportioning valve and master cylinder from the 4 wheel drum setup, and I havent had any problems it works great.
if anyone has used the disc brakes from a granada to do the swap on a maverick can you tell me what you did and what was involved. again i am looking to do a manual disc brake swap. i am looking for someone who has done it so they can give me some advice and prepare me for any problems that i might run into. thanks tim
to member MBG1973 can you tell me what year did you use and are you saying that you only swaped the spindles? please exsplain. tim
I believe the spindles and calipers were off of a 75 maverick and it bolted right up to the stock 73 suspension setup. All that I had to update was the rubber brake lines.
I put 75 monarch (mercurys version of the granada) on my 72 and this is what I did. Use the granada spindle, rotors calipers, brake lines and tie rods everything else I used was maverick parts. I used a master cylinder off of a 75 maverick and I replaced all of my ball joints and bushings while I was that far into it(good Idea to do) the whole conversion cost me about $400 including the junkyard parts. Yes I used moog parts(better quality then the average autozone stuff) I am still using my stock proportioning valve without any problems so have fun
