Get a load of this...bought a new cyl. head for my 250ci 6cyl from American Cylinder based in Seattle, WA. Paid an arm and a leg, plus shipping...threw it in, and boom...valve drops out, blow a hole through the piston, cracks the block. *HEART ATTACK* So I call them up, they tell me to ship it back to them with a copy of the receipt. I went ahead, did like they asked (paid shipping again) and then, all of the sudden, noone knows anything about it. Go Figure! To add to the mix, I decided to be a hero and check up on my significant other in hurricane Isabel...took my F-150 when i went over there....its about a mile's drive, no prob right? Then BOOM, a tree falls and lands on my hood...I now have the only convertible F-150 in VA, and the scars to prove I did all the work! Anyways, picked up a cheap rice rocket for transportation, looked a little deeper into the maverick, and found that the frame is rotted out. It needs more work than i can do, so I have a '76 maverick, needs framework, and an engine. Brand new tranny, completely rebuilt front end, rear end. Body's almost straight, besides the hole in the trunk for sale...and to get to the point, Im looking for a project car, decent frame, decent body, preferrably one that has/had a 302...By the way, Im glad to be back :)

But it DID land on me, while driving my truck. Turns out, my Maverick was stolen while I was at work one day. I've waited 20 some years, got 4 kids and a wife now, and I just bought another Maverick, So yet again, I'M BAA-AACK!

Welcome back to the site, you were a member way before me! I'm confident with that 20 years you have gained both life experience, knowledge and financially.

Tell us about your new to you Maverick and include pictures. Start with body condition i.e. rust, hopefully lack thereof.

Yeah - I definitely picked up on some hard knocks over the years. My dad and I built my first maverick 25 years ago, and here I am, getting one to rebuild with my sone who is the same age I was at that time. I got him a 1949 Plymouth to work on alongside me, so we have a lot of work ahead of us!

Here's the '73 I found, original owner, matching numbers grabber with a super duty hood scoop... lol.

I plan to do a disc brake swap, clean it up and see what she's got before delving into the motor too much, but I've always been interested in the 347 stroker.

Is the rear disc conversion a tale of mythic proportions or is it a real thing? I've searched and searched and haven't found a bolt on setup, though many claims exist even within these forums.

A grabber hood and skinny bumper will probably be in the mix, though I think I want to try my hand at fiberglass panels, my dad was really good at it. I'm thinking a taller rear spoiler (think '79 trans am), and lower air dam / valence, and fender flares to give it a widebody look.

    Maybe not quite this far.

Complete with inset headlights and all! I must've seen that Hot Wheels at some point and burned it into my memory, because that's freaking it - then the old barracuda strobe on the stripes.
