We (my uncle and I) heard through the grapevine that there were some new Maverick/Comet arrivals at the pull-a-part, so we proceeded to check it out. The best of them didn't even stop in the yard to be picked. It went straight to the crush pile! The body was so rotted that they didn't think anyone would bother pulling parts... Anyway, my uncle bought it for scrap price. The car is complete... very complete actually. Just that the body is toast. It's a 73 white/orange Grabber V8, 3 on the floor, buckets (in great shape for the rot on the car) and even the spoiler was in place waiting for the crusher! Anyway, he's pulling the seats, tracks, frame mounts, clutch linkage/pedals, floor shifter, spoiler, sport mirrors, 8" rear, lots of trim... Then getting his scrap money back by crushing what's left. Pretty good score. Wish I had the dough to go in on it with him...
How can these guys be in the parts business and not even TRY to see if the parts are valuable before crushing?
If it's anything like the Pull-A-Part's here, they move such a huge volume of cars, I'm sure they could care less about a rusty old Maverick. Man I've got some hellacious deals there though.
The one in nashville sucks.. I went there and wasnt even aloud in so all pull a parts suck in my book.
I believe you have to be 16 to go in. But I've been going there regularly since I was 15 and they never said a word back then.
Up here in Canada i know of a bone yard that has a massive stock pile of Maverick and Comet .......................... big bumpers ............. anyone need any.......... i can give you guys the address ......... any takers ................ HELLO? :evilsmile
As heavy as those things are, you could probably make enough in scrap to buy some nice small bumpers.
