I've been banging my head against the wall trying to figure this one out. I've drawn diagrams over and over but I don't think I have it quite right. Ok. Here goes. The dome light turns on whenever the door opens (duh) but what if I wanted to have another light come on at the same time but not always come on at the same time. Hope that makes sense.

Lets see if I got this straight. You want the second light to be lit only when the doors are opened, but, be able to disable it so it would remain off if the doors are opened.

Or do you want it to be totally independent so you can turn it on and off regardless of door position, with the option to make it operate with the dome light.

Soooulpower is scaring me. Too many electrical questions in too few days....

You are going to have to create a new circuit. Electricity works the same way EVERY TIME based on the laws of physics and electronics, so you cannot make it work one way one time, and another way another time.

There is no way to make the hose come on and spew water some times, but not all the time...

Either way would be simple. The dome light has a constant hot side and gets its ground through the door switch or through the headlight switch. Just add your new light and provide a constant hot to one side.

In the first scenario you would tap into the door switch ground wire (on the switched side) and run it through an single pole, single throw switch, then on to your new light. When the switch is toggled one way, the contacts will be closed and the light will function with the dome light. When it is switched the other way, the ground line is broken so the light will remain off when the doors are opened.

In the second scenario, tape into the same line and get a single pole, double throw switch with 3 terminals on the back. The center tap is the common and will hook directly to your new light. Take the other 2 terminals and hook your ground wire from the door switch to one, and a constant ground to the other. In the center position, the light will not light up regardless of the doors or light switch. In one of the end positions, the light will come on when it is coupled to the constant ground. IN the other end position, it will operate with the dome light.

    Hope this helps.

    That's precisely what I mean.

Never thought of a double throw switch. It sounds simple when presented like that.

Sure there is. Its called a nozzle. The hose is energized (pressurized) but nothing comes out until you pull the trigger. :D

Good point. I was unsure how to assemble the circuit. I did make it sound like I wanted some kind of magic solution didn't I?
